線形化(リニアライズ)されたPDFでは、ファイル全体のダウンロードを待たずに、十分なデータがダウンロードされた時点でブラウザが1ページ目を表示できます——低速回線で大きなPDFを開くときに特に効果が分かりやすくなります。
PDFの見た目が変わったり、サイズが小さくなったりしますか？
いいえ——内容は完全に同じで、ファイルサイズもほぼ変わりません。これは高速なプログレッシブ読み込みのために内部のバイト順序を変えるだけで、圧縮ではありません（圧縮したい場合は「PDF圧縮」をお使いください）。
How do I check that a PDF is actually linearized?
Open the file's Properties in Adobe Acrobat or Preview — the Description tab will show "Fast Web View: Yes." No PDF reader handy? Open the file in a plain text editor and look near the very top for /Linearized — that's the marker every linearized file starts with.
Will I notice a difference, or does this only matter for websites?
It only matters when the PDF streams over the web — opened straight from a link, viewed inside a browser tab, or embedded on a page. If someone already has the whole file sitting on their disk before they open it, there's nothing left to speed up. This tool is for PDFs people view online, not ones they've already downloaded.
