Occasionally a scan comes out mirror-imaged rather than just sideways — text reads backwards instead of just facing the wrong direction. That’s a different problem from a page being rotated, and rotating it won’t fix it.
Flip vs. rotate
Rotating turns a page around a center point, like the hand of a clock — a rotated page still reads normally once it’s the right way up. Flipping mirrors the page across an axis, like a reflection in a mirror — a flipped page reads backwards no matter which way you turn it. If rotating a “sideways” page still looks wrong, it’s very likely mirrored, not rotated, and needs flipping instead.
Fixing it
Flip PDF mirrors every page along your chosen axis:

- Preview the mirrored result.
- Download — every page flips the same way.
Sometimes you want the mirror on purpose
Not every reason to flip a page is about fixing a scanning mistake. Flipping horizontally before printing is the standard trick for iron-on and heat-transfer prints — print the mirrored version, press it face-down onto the fabric, and the image comes out the right way round once it’s transferred. The same logic applies to printing on the back of transparent film or acetate: the image needs to be mirrored on the page so it reads correctly from the front once you’re looking through the material. In both cases you’re not undoing a flip, you’re deliberately creating one, and Flip PDF works the same way either direction — the tool doesn’t know or care why you want the page mirrored.
When this actually comes up
Mirrored scans mostly come from glass-bed scanners fed with the page upside down relative to how the scanner reads it, or certain duplex scanners on specific settings. It’s less common than plain sideways rotation, but when it happens, no amount of rotating fixes it — only a genuine mirror flip does.
Only some pages are mirrored?
Like most whole-document tools here, Flip PDF applies the same flip to every page. If only a handful of pages in an otherwise-fine document are mirrored, pull those out with Extract PDF Pages first, flip that smaller file, then merge it back into place.
