Make a Scanned PDF Searchable

Run OCR on a scanned PDF so the text becomes selectable, searchable, and copyable.

How it works

1. Upload a scanned PDF. 2. We recognize the text on every page. 3. Download — the file looks identical, but the text is now selectable and searchable.

Does this change how my document looks?

No — each page is kept as an image and looks the same. An invisible text layer is added underneath so the words become selectable and searchable.

What languages are supported?

English, Hindi, and Bengali — pick the document's language before running OCR so the recognizer reads it correctly. More languages may be added later.

Does this upload my document anywhere?

No — recognition runs entirely in your browser using an on-device OCR engine. Your file never leaves your device.

Will this work on a PDF that already has selectable text?

It can, but there's no benefit — running OCR re-renders every page as an image, which usually makes an already-digital PDF larger for no gain. Use it for scanned or photographed pages instead.

Does this give me editable text, like a Word document?

No — the output is still a PDF. Each page stays an image and gets an invisible text layer underneath, so you can select, search, and copy the text, but you can't reflow or retype it in place. If you need an actual editable document, run OCR first, then use the PDF to Word converter on the result.

How accurate is the OCR?

It depends mostly on your scan. Clear, straight, well-lit pages recognize well; blurry, skewed, or low-contrast photos will have more misreads. It's built to read printed text — handwriting isn't reliable and often comes out garbled.
